Southeast Families,

It is with great emotion that I leave Southeast.  The past 7 years I have grown to know and love the families, students and staff of Southeast.   I want to thank you for supporting me during this time, for embracing the principles I brought to Southeast  and most of all for allowing me to work  every day with your most precious possession...your child!

As J.M. Barrie said,  “never say goodbye because goodbye means going away and going away means forgetting”.  I will never forget the past 7 years nor will I forget the over 4200 students in those 7 years that have so deeply touched my life, so it is not goodbye but “until we meet again”!

 Ms. Sulzman

 Recess Before Lunch

We are excited to share with you that we will have recess before lunch this year. We are expecting students will eat more, will have fewer visits to the nurses office with upset stomachs and will be ready to focus on learning when they return to their classrooms. We have installed hand sanitizer stations in our cafeteria to support this effort. Please visit the links below to read more about the benifites of recess before lunch.

Spartan Assemblies - Second Friday of the Month

On the SECOND Friday of the month kindergarten-sixth grade students will join the Spartan Assembly. They can enter the building at 8:15 and sit outside their classroom. If students arrive after the 8:25 bell, they need to enter through the front doors and head to the gym so they can join the assembly.

Every  Monday we will read the Spartan's of the Week names during announcements. They will get their pictures taken and the pictures will go on the "Spartan of the Week" board. All students who have been a "Spartan of the Week" will stand to be recognized at the monthly assembly. Their names however will not be read at the assemblies anymore.

We welcome parents and visitors to join in the celebration of our "Spartans of the Week" and continue learning about the 7 Habits!

Southeast Parking Lot Update
Several concerns have been brought to my attention about the parking lot. The parking lot is a busy place and we all need to abide by the posted notices and work together to ensure student safety. Here is a list of things that will be happening in the near future to help with that, along with a few suggestions. If you have any questions please let me know. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
·         Over the next few weeks our parking lot will be repainted to look like the pictures below. Painting will also be done behind the building by the 2/3 playground. This is the North Parking lot.

·         Main parking lot:
o    As you can see, the lane closest to the curb is a “hug and go lane.” In this lane, pull as far forward as possible, pull in and quickly drop off your child. Please DO NOT park in this lane. It is a fire lane in case of an emergency. The other lane is a “thru lane only” and anyone in this lane should NOT be stopping and dropping students off. This is incredibly dangerous. Please pull into the “hug and go lane” when dropping off. If you need to park your car, please park in the lot.
o    A crosswalk area will be designated for safe crossing in the morning and afternoon. A school representative will be present in the morning and afternoon to assist with crossing in this area. Please pay close attention to the stop sign and the person helping cross people safely.
·         North parking lot (behind the school);
o    As you can see, the lane closest to the curb is a “hug and go lane.” In this lane, pull as far forward as possible, pull in and quickly drop off your child. Please DO NOT park in this lane. It is a fire lane in case of an emergency. The other lane is a “thru lane only” and anyone in this lane should NOT be stopping and dropping students off. This is incredibly dangerous. Please pull into the “hug and go lane” when dropping off.
o    Please DO NOT park or drive in the bus lane. The bus lane is for our buses and needs to remain free of cars.

Suggestions for drop-off/pick-up points:
·         Use the main lot, the north lot, or Benedict Park as drop-off or pick-up points.
·         Allow for more time in the morning, especially on snow days as the parking lot and streets get congested.
·         Begin dropping off at 8:15. We have supervision on the playgrounds starting at 8:15 so you can miss the 8:25 rush.
